HOW WE WORK

The success of the Association greatly depends on the active participation and support of our membership. For safe and effective burns, we rely on the landowners to:

-  Pay annual membership dues of only $50
- Provide proof of liability insurance on property to be burned
- Attend at least one prescribed fire training in the first year of membership
- Assist on at least one burn each year for another member (or pay a $100 contract labor fee)
- Work with a Forester or SIPBA Coordinator to submit a Burn Plan for thier property
- Take responsibility for the installation of suitable firebreaks per the burn plan
- Be present and assist on burns on their propoerty (or supply a representative)
- Contribute $150 crew mobilization surcharge for each burn day on their property

Throughout the years, our organization has discovered similarities in what drives landowners in our community to become members. Many Southern Illinois landowners share a common land ethic… a desire to take responsibility for the management of their land. SIPBA members are bound by the desire to utilize prescribed fire on their land with less risk, more professional training, and access to an abundance of resources to make the job easier. In Illinois, many landowners understand the benefits that prescribed fire and many other conservation methods can provide but are reluctant to put these methods into action themselves. That is where we come in. As a SIPBA member, you will have access to the equipment, crew and leadership to safely and effectively introduce fire to your landscape. Our members help each other use one of the most natural and cost-effective land management tools available. The only commitment beyond a nominal fee is your priceless involvement.
